Senior Service Recognition
Senior Service Recognition
A Community Service Graduation Honor For Seniors
The Senior Service Recognition was conceived to showcase outstanding community service efforts by Stevenson students. The application process is designed to capture service stories and then share them back to the school community to inspire other students. If you've been committed to community service throughout your high school career, please consider applying and share your most meaningful stories with us!
Seniors only may apply for this honor if they have completed 4-10 significant, long-term community service experiences during their four years in high school. These experiences may be completed anywhere.
A “significant, long-term” experience is defined as:
- Multiple days in duration (not just a one-time event)
- Equal to or greater than a full work week total over the course of an entire high school career (40 hours minimum)
- Related to a personal goal of the student and tied to at least one United Nations global goal (discussed in a student reflection when submitting the application)
Recognized seniors will receive a special tassel to be worn at their graduation ceremony.
Service Experience Qualifying Criteria
In order for service experiences to be verified in the application process, they must meet the following criteria and be approved by a non-family member adult:
- Service activities are done on behalf of others (not including immediate family members).
- The primary intent of the activity is to aid and assist others for the good of the community.
- No compensation (grade, class credit, monetary or other) has been given.
- Service activities must be done outside the school day or during unscheduled time.
- The acts of service must promote the values incorporated in the Stevenson High School Vision and Values Statement.
How to Maintain a Service Portfolio
Stevenson High School uses an online community service registration and verification program called InnerView (my.innerview.org). Every student in the school receives a login and password through his or her Stevenson email account. (If you did not receive this email or forgot your password, please go to my.innerview.org, go to login and click on "forgot password.” Type in your Stevenson email address and InnerView will email you the password.)
InnerView allows students to record their own community service experiences, documenting them with written reflections and photos. InnerView also allows students to sign up for some community service experiences directly through the platform. While maintaining a portfolio on InnerView, it is critical to document the work and record adult sponsor information (emails and phone numbers). Students will also want to have conversations with these adult sponsors to inform them that they will be using them as contacts for later service verification, so that the adults will be prepared.
Students will use information compiled in their InnerView accounts to complete applications for NHS, Senior Service Recognition, Inspiring Service Awards, and many other opportunities.
Application Process
Online applications are due for seniors on Monday, April 14, 2025.
The application process will require:
- Service and adult contact information that has been collected from InnerView and other sources.
- A 30-second video explaining why community service is personally important to the student.
- Written reflections in response to prompts.
A committee of teachers and school officials will call or email all adult contacts to verify service work.
For more information on senior service recognition, contact Ms. Zabrin at 847-415-4184 or czabrin@d125.org.

Safety
NOW Arena has also implemented a “clear bag policy,” which limits the size of bags entering the arena and requires the majority of bags to be clear to streamline the security screening process and avoid unnecessary wait times to enter the venue. Exceptions will be made for medical, family, or childcare bags or small clutches no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”. No outside food or beverages are allowed with the exception of water and snacks for young children and babies.
Accessibility for Guest with Disabilities
Accessible parking and seating will be available; however, wheelchair escorts and wheelchairs will not be available for guests.
Caps and Gowns
Please press and hang the gown for a sufficient period prior to commencement in order to minimize the number of wrinkles. Tassels are to be worn on the right side of the cap before the diploma is handed out and shifted to the left when the diploma is received. Students may keep their cap, gown, and tassel. Caps are not allowed to be decorated.
Conduct
It is our hope that the commencement ceremony will honor the Class of 2024. We believe that the ceremony should reflect the high standards which characterize the class and Stevenson High School. Accordingly, we expect that all graduates and their guests will conduct themselves in a dignified and solemn manner which reflects the significance of the occasion. The NOW Arena staff will confiscate items causing disruption to the ceremony including air horns, balloons, beach balls, etc.
Appropriate Dress
Students are expected to dress formally and in a manner appropriate to graduation, the culminating experience of a high school career. With respect to dressing for the occasion: Shorts, jeans, and purses will not be allowed into the arena. With respect to what shoes to wear: While students are highly encouraged to dress in formal shoes, we understand that for many of our students, this may include clean sneakers that they are proud to wear.
Diplomas
All diplomas will be mailed home after the commencement ceremony. In order to receive your diploma in a timely manner, please be sure any fees outstanding on your student account are paid. Fees are assessed on an ongoing basis and are available in the fees section of Infinite Campus at any time. Any outstanding end-of-year fees like textbooks will be assessed after the last week of school.
