Your favorite time of year has arrived! The time of year when Patriot Theatre Company calls on YOU to be a part of one of its most beloved traditions... The One Act Plays! Entirely student written, directed, designed and produced, this unique experience presents a wonderful opportunity for you to take a stab at a new talent you didn’t know you had and make some new friends within the ever inclusive theatre community. Video audition submissions are due March 16 and the crew sign up deadline is March 19. Sign up today!

Thursday, March 4

The Fine Arts Department announces a student competition for the 2022 Odyssey logo design. The winner will receive a prize of $150.00 and have their logo featured on all promotional materials for Odyssey Festival 2022. Submissions are due by 5:00 p.m. on March 31, 2021. Attention all Stevenson Students:

The Patriot School Store needs your help designing a new SHS spirit wear T-shirt!  We are holding a t-shirt design competition open to all students at Stevenson High School.  The winning T-shirt will be available for purchase in the school store and through the online web store. The winner will receive their T-shirt FREE! Please submit your creative, original design in PDF format to by April 1, 2021 to be entered into the competition.

World’s Fair is back and better than ever! I  Performances are intended to celebrate the variety of cultures in the SHS body and showcase students’ excitement in expressing their cultural identities. If you are interested in performing, fill out the Performance Proposal Form no later than tonight  by 11:59 p.m.

There will be a virtual informational meeting for Boys Gymnastics prospective athletes and parents this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and a virtual informational meeting for  Boys Water Polo prospective athletes and parents on Thursday, March 4th at 7:30 p.m.  Zoom links can be found on the individual sports pages of the website.

Best Buddies' Spread the Word for Inclusion Week is a global campaign committed to empowering communities to take action for inclusion. This upcoming year, Spread the Word will explore the need for connection and how individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities need to be seen, heard, and valued in order to develop the skills of inclusion to build connection. Take the pledge today!

Stevenson Camp Patriot just announced that a job posting for Camp Patriot role models, a position often referred to as camp counselors, has been published and applications from current sophomores, juniors and seniors are being accepted.

Tomorrow starts a four day weekend for Patriot Students.  Here are some reminders about the next couple of days:

  • Friday is an Institute Day.  Even though school is closed, the Virtual ILC will be open to support students from 1 - 4 p.m. tomorrow.  You can find the links for the Virtual ILC on the Academics webpage.

  • Classes will resume on Tuesday, March 3.  This day all students will be following the remote learning day bell schedule.

  • Wednesday, March 4 will begin the new Two-Group Hybrid Learning Plan. All students received an email with their assigned group. Visit the Covid-19 Updates Page on the website to find the current Hybrid bell schedule.

Wednesday, Feb. 24

Join the BASS and Film Clubs for a virtual screening on Zoom of the movie 'Selma' today at 4 p.m. This movie highlights Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. A discussion group will  follow the movie.

The WIT is currently open to submissions. All writers and artists submit their fiction, poetry, drama, song lyrics, music scores, nonfiction, and art to Include your ID number, the title of the work, and the genre or media of the work, or use this link.

Interest in a career in Data Analytics? Join the Career Exploration Program for our next virtual Career Spotlight Talk on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. when we learn about Careers in Data Analytics from a Marketing Data Analyst at IBM.

The 2020 Half Wit is now available! Read and listen to the interactive magazine filled with fantastic student writing. The Half Wit is entirely student-written and produced.

Thursday, Feb. 18

The Diversity Council and Black Association of Stevenson Students (BASS) co-curricular clubs invite all students to attend their online meeting tomorrow at 4 p.m. on Zoom to learn more about different aspects of Black history and culture through a virtual museum tour!

This year’s Mr. SHS will be a virtual show this Friday at 7 p.m. at no charge. And if you are a senior, you have the option to purchase advance tickets to view Mr. SHS on-campus from your cars, drive-in style. Please note that the viewing will be limited to the first 100 sign-ups and costs $5 per car.

Speaking of a drive-in show, the Student Council is hosting a “Wheels and Reels” event on the SHS campus in celebration of this year’s Winterfest Week! For $5 per car, SHS students and families may drive to campus to watch the Disney movie Moana. This event will take place in Parking Lot B on Saturday, Feb. 20, with the first showing at 5:30 p.m. and the second showing at 8:30 p.m. Reserve your spot today!

Tomorrow’s  Spirit Day is Cinderella , which means dress up in your fancy and formal clothes, Patriots!

Winterfest 2021 has many fun activities this week, so make sure you check out the Winterfest webpage for all the information you need to know. Here is a quick summary of some of the events:

  • Tomorrow’s Spirit Day is Alice In Wonderland, which means dress up in crazy hair and clothing.
  • Pass on the Beat is hosting two fun musical activities: Name that Tune and Unscramble the Lyrics. Please join them this afternoon from 3:45-4:45 p.m.
  • THE WINTER LIGHT SHOW IS HERE! For three days and three days only during Winterfest weekend! Come enjoy a spectacular night with music and colorful lights! This event is open to all Stevenson students and community members. The event is free, but you need to reserve a time slot to enter.
Tuesday, Feb. 16

Current sophomores and juniors are invited to attend a SPARK informational meeting on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. on Zoom. SPARK provides a summer internship experience for exceptional students interested in pursuing careers related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) research.

The PPA will be hosting Treat Days for all students this week in honor of Winterfest! Be sure to check your emails for information on how you can get your free bag of freshly baked mini chocolate chip cookies. This offer can be redeemed anytime between Tuesday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 21.

Tomorrow’s  Winterfest Spirit Day is Red Riding Hood!  So find some red clothes and join in the fun! Don’t miss out on the Winterfest activities this week. Go to the Winterfest Webpage for all the information you need!

Chinese Club Hosts Virtual New Year Celebration
You don't need to belong to the Stevenson Chinese Club to join their Chinese New Year Celebration Trivia Night. Students are invited to attend this virtual event on Friday, Feb. 12 from 3:30 p.m. - 4:40 p.m. on Zoom. Trivia games will be played on Kahoot with gift cards issued to contest winners.

Virtual College Fairs
The Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling will be hosting virtual college fairs this spring. Please see the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling website for additional information and to register.

There is a virtual information meeting for Boys Soccer on Friday, Feb.12 at 5:30 p.m. Tryouts will begin March 1, 2021. Please go to the Stevenson Boys Soccer web page for more information.

Tuesday, Feb. 9

Tomorrow is a Late Arrival Day and the late arrival bell schedule will be followed. All students will be remote. ILC Tutoring will be available from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Please check the Tutoring Support Program webpage for more information.

Yesterday, five candidates were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame as the class of 2020. Check out the Athletic Hall of Fame web page for a link to the virtual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Our very own Coach Ambrose is one of the five individuals in this year’s class of inductees. Congratulations to Coach Ambrose!

The WIT is currently accepting submissions for this year's edition. All student-writers and artists are invited to submit their fiction, poetry, drama, song lyrics, music scores, nonfiction, and art.

2020 - 2021 Spring Biliteracy Exam
Students interested in taking the Spring 2021 Biliteracy exam will have the opportunity to take the exam in a remote setting with parents/guardians as proctors OR come on campus where a couple of rooms will be set up with laptops and headsets with microphones essential for the Speaking portion.

  • Remote testing window: Feb. 16 - Feb. 26 with a parent/guardian proctor.
  • On-Campus Exam Dates: Saturday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 27, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the West building.

The Failed Presidential Candidates, Live Virtual Comedy Show
Join the Failed Presidential Candidates for a live virtual comedy show! On Friday, Feb. 5 at 7:00 p.m., twenty-seven of Stevenson's funniest students will make up an entire performance, never to be seen again! All are encouraged to join for a night of laughter and fun. Performance will be streamed via Zoom.

Alzheimer's Foundation Scholarship Essay Contest

High school seniors impacted by Alzheimer's disease can win up to $5,000 for college through the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) National Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship Essay Contest.

Applicants must submit a 1,200 to 1,500- word essay describing how Alzheimer’s disease impacted their life and what they have learned about themselves, their family, or their community through their experience with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia-related illnesses. The essay submission deadline is Monday, Feb. 15.

Wednesday, Feb. 3

College of Lake County Workshop and Placement Testing
Seniors planning to apply to the College of Lake County (CLC) are invited to participate in the following virtual opportunities organized by the SHS College and Career Center in conjunction with CLC:

  • Friday, Feb. 12: A CLC Application Workshop Day will be held from 12:15 - 3:30 p.m. The application will take approximately one class period to complete.
  • Friday, March 5: Virtual mathematics placement testing will be offered from 7:45 a.m.-10:30.a.m.
  • Friday, March 12: Virtual English placement testing from 12:15 p.m - 3:30 p.m.
