Andy Farrissey
24th Season
afarrissey@d125.org
Andy Farrissey, a 1977 Stevenson graduate, has served as head boys track and field coach at SHS since 1997, compiling a dual-meet record of 198-55-1 through the 2019 season. Farrissey guided the Patriots to North Suburban Conference championships in 2018 and 2019.
He has coached 41 state qualifiers in boys track and field during his tenure, which also includes leading the girls program from 1997-99.
Farrissey is one of the inaugural members of the Stevenson Athletics Hall of Fame, joining 18 others during an induction ceremony in October 2019. He also was inducted into the Lake County High Schools Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
While attending Stevenson, Farrissey was a letter-winner in four sports: baseball, basketball, football, and track and field. He attended North Park University, and was a member of the Vikings’ two-time NCAA Division III basketball championship teams in 1979 and 1980.
After college, Farrissey was on the football coaching staff at Deerfield High School for 10 seasons. During his tenure, the Warriors went 84-18 and had two IHSA state runner-up finishes. He then went to the University of Notre Dame to serve as a graduate assistant. The Fighting Irish made the Orange Bowl (1991), Sugar Bowl (1992) and Cotton Bowl (1993) during his years in South Bend.
In 1996, Farrissey returned to his high school alma mater as a physical education teacher. In addition to leading the track program, he spent 14 seasons as assistant football coach (1995-2010) for fellow SHS Hall of Famer Bill Mitz, compiling a 116-41 record with a state runner-up finish in 2003. He also served as an assistant coach on the Patriot wrestling staff from 2006-08. After Mitz retired from Stevenson in 2011 and became head coach at Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Farrissey followed him as an assistant coach.
