Junior Focus

Students stand together at Junior orientation

Stevenson’s multi-phased junior year college counseling program consists of the following:

Junior College Night (December)

A large group presentation for juniors and their parents by Stevenson college counselors. Topics such as standardized testing, senior year course selection, and important factors to consider when investigating colleges were covered.

Student Focus Seminars (April)

Juniors come to the College/Career Center by way of their mathematics classes. These period-long meetings feature a college admission representative, along with a college counselor. After general comments about the college admissions/selection process, students are provided a forum to ask questions and voice concerns.

Post Secondary SCoPE Meetings (January-June)

All junior families are invited to participate in a Post-Secondary SCoPE (P-SCoPE) Meeting, which consists of individual 45-minute appointments with a college counselor (one appointment per family) between January and the end of June. Appointments are made on a space-available basis; traditionally, Saturday appointments are the first chosen.

Participating in a P-SCoPE Meeting during your junior year can only enhance our ability to assist you in the college admission process in the fall. Your senior year will be better planned, as you will be aware of procedures and deadlines involved in your applications to the colleges of your choice. During the meeting, students complete a college information profile which includes a wish list of colleges. In addition to discussing individual colleges and making suggestions, the meeting covers student transcripts, senior course selections and the college search/admission process in general.
