Theatre
Theatre at SHS
The Theatre Department features a sequential curriculum that allows students to investigate the social and historical context in which they live, form aesthetic judgments, and develop the discipline of the artist. The ultimate goal is to promote appreciation of the art, as well as a more sensitive and reflective understanding of the human condition.
Mission Statement
Patriot Theatre Company’s mission is to activate passion, inspire excellence, and cultivate mindful citizens in an inclusive community of well-rounded theatre artists engaging in diverse stories.

At the center of "The Compass" is a trial, determining the fate of a teenager who used an app to make a life-altering decision. In this play, every show will end differently, depending on what you, the audience, decide as to the jury. Join us as we navigate the question: When someone else, or something else, tells you what to do, what exactly are you responsible for?
This play is recommended for mature audiences only, as it confronts such issues as racism and school violence. Performances will be held Friday, March 5 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 6 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m.

The company is comprised entirely of freshmen and sophomores and features three student assistant directors and double casting in some roles.
Synopsis:
Welcome to Almost, Maine, a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.

Synopsis:
OLIVÉRio: A Brazilian Twist is a joyful retelling of Oliver Twist set in modern-day Rio de Janeiro that tackles issues of poverty, inequity and injustice while exploring Brazil’s rich music and culture. Esperanca Oliverio, nicknamed Oli, is a homeless orphan girl who asks Iemanja, the goddess of the sea, for a “little bit more” in her life. Con man Falcão and his artful young thief Zé Esquiva invite Oli to live with them in the favela, hoping they can use her sweet nature as a perfect distraction to steal from Rosa Maria, the rich widow who lives in a penthouse in Copacabana. In the favela, Oli meets Nancí, a young woman who begins to teach Oli how to read. But when Nancí’s jealous police officer boyfriend, Sykes, gets involved, everyone’s life is in peril and everyone has to choose between doing what is easy and what is right. This one-act musical will be jointly produced by the Stevenson Foundation and the Patriot Theatre Company and will be directed by Joey Fitzpatrick.
