Vision and Values

Stevenson High School Vision Statement

Our tradition of sustained excellence has been built upon a foundation of the search for continuous improvement and lifelong learning. This vision statement reflects what we hope to become as a school community. It is our vision for the future.  

The following vision statement was adopted in 2026. It follows earlier vision statements created in 1983, 1990, 1996, 2010 and 2018. 

Our vision statement rests upon five pillars: curriculum; equity, access and inclusivity; professional learning community; culture for learning; and community engagement. Each pillar is detailed below.

Curriculum
To ensure Success for Every Student, we will implement a guaranteed, viable, and rigorous curriculum that engages students through meaningful and challenging learning experiences. Our curriculum will prioritize curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, where students collaborate around real-world challenges. We will work with students to analyze evidence, consider multiple perspectives, and construct new understandings through inquiry and reflection. Learning experiences will help students develop transferable skills that extend across disciplines.  Our curriculum will foster student agency, provide choice, and encourage learners to take ownership of their growth through self-reflection.

Equity, Access, and Inclusivity
To ensure Success for Every Student, we will recognize and value every student as an individual with unique strengths, identities, and experiences. We are committed to creating a culture of inclusivity, where every student feels a strong sense of belonging and has equitable access to opportunities for growth and achievement. We will continually examine and improve our practices to remove barriers and ensure that all students receive the support and challenge necessary to meet high expectations. Our school community will cultivate empathy, cultural understanding, and shared responsibility, empowering students to learn from diverse perspectives and contribute positively to an inclusive society.

Professional Learning Community
To ensure Success for Every Student, we will sustain a culture focused on continuous improvement, collaboration, and evidence-based practices. We will engage in collective inquiry, examining student learning, analyzing evidence from student work, and refining instructional practices to better meet the needs of every learner. Teams will work collaboratively to design meaningful learning experiences, assess student progress, and ensure that every student receives the support necessary to succeed. Our collaborative culture will promote reflection and innovation, empowering educators to learn from one another, experiment with new approaches, and continually strengthen their practice in service of student learning.

Culture for Learning
To ensure Success for Every Student, we will cultivate collaborative learning environments where every student feels valued, supported, and connected to the school community.

We will foster a culture of belonging, reflection, and growth, where students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, learn from feedback, and view challenges as opportunities for development. We will work with students to set meaningful goals, build resilience, and develop the confidence to pursue ambitious aspirations. Our learning environments will support student wellness, helping students to develop relationships, habits, and mindsets needed to thrive academically and personally. 

Community Engagement
To ensure Success for Every Student, we will actively engage and collaborate with the Stevenson community to enrich learning and strengthen connections between school and society. We will build authentic partnerships with families, community organizations, and local experts to provide students with opportunities to explore real-world challenges, develop leadership skills, and apply their learning beyond the classroom. Our school will serve as a vibrant community where students, families, educators, and partners work together to support learning, celebrate diverse perspectives, and contribute positively to the broader community.
