More than 16,000 students have achieved the distinction of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, representing less than 1 percent of high school seniors in the United States.
The semifinalists will now move on to compete for the 6,870 National Merit Scholarships, which are offered next spring and worth nearly $26 million.
