Freshman Competes at Junior World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

Freshman Tatyana Shilshtut represented the United States at the first Junior World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships held July 19-21 in Moscow.

Tatyana was part of an eight-gymnast delegation who earned placement at the USA Gymnastics Championships that took place earlier in the month in Des Moines, Iowa. She and four teammates from Vitrychenko Academy in Niles won the junior group national championship to earn the trip to Russia. They were joined by the country’s top three all-around junior gymnasts.

In Russia, Tatyana’s group performed hoops and ribbons routines, and finished 19th out of 32 countries. Her group teammates, all members of Vitrychenko Academy, included: Madeleine Avila of Highland Park; Lola Perez of Weymouth, Mass.; Remy Turner of Glendale, Calif.; and Emily Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y. They were joined by all-around competitors Jenna Zhao of Burr Ridge, Ill., who also is a member of Vitrychenko Academy; Alexandria Kautzman of Westlake Village, Calif.; and Victoria Kobelev of Palm Coast, Fla.
