Senior Emily Kang was named Distinguished Young Woman of Illinois in July, the second consecutive Stevenson student to receive the honor. Dora Guo, a 2019 SHS graduate, earned the award in 2019.
Emily, who hopes to attend Northwestern University and eventually have a career in computer science, won the interview and talent categories at the DYW contest in Tinley Park. She also claimed $2,740 in college scholarships.
Classmate Kaitlyn Lu was first runner-up and received a $750 scholarship, and fellow senior Christie Lee was named fourth runner-up and a $500 scholarship. Emily will represent Illinois at the Distinguished Young Woman of America competition in July 2020 in Mobile, Ala.
Distinguished Young Women, formerly known as America's Junior Miss, is a national non-profit organization that provides scholarship opportunities to high school senior girls.
