Seven students earned top-10 finishes at the 42nd annual HOSA-Future Health Professionals International Conference held June 19-22 in Orlando, Fla.
Fifty-one Stevenson students qualified for the competition, and 43 were able to attend. They were among more than 11,000 students who competed in nearly 60 health science events.
Junior Seohyun (Bella) Kim brought home first place in the Biomedical Laboratory Science category. She also finished in the top 10 in two categories during special testing offered by National Geographic Learning: sixth in Biology and seventh in Biochemistry.
At the 2019 state competition, Bella finished second in Biomedical Lab Science and won Dental Terminology. She was second in the latter event at the 2018 international conference. Bella won the state title in Dental Technology as a freshman.
Other top 10 finishes for Stevenson came from:
- Seniors Omkarnath Halleppanawar and Vivek Thatte, sixth in CERT Skills
- Senior Jasmine Wang, sixth in General Chemistry in the National Geographic Learning competition
- Seniors Maansi Bhasin and Akshita Cheruku and junior Tarana Varshney, 10th in Creative Problem Solving
In addition, three students were honored in the Barbara James Service Award category. Seniors Aleksandra Fedorov and Ria Kumari received silver-level recognition, while sophomore Trisha Gannu attained bronze level.
Also honored at the conference was club sponsor Jill Lipman, who was named 2018-19 Outstanding HOSA Advisor.
