Stephanie Miller Wins State Golf Championship
October 15, 2012
Stephanie Miller closed her extraordinary high school career Saturday, October 13 by winning her second state championship in a rain-shortened event. Miller shot a 1-under-par 71 at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur on Friday, a score that held up when inclement weather forced cancellation of Saturday’s second round. Miller edged Grace Kil of Buffalo Grove and Jessica Yuen of Neuqua Valley by one stroke.
The University of Illinois-bound Miller, who also won the IHSA Class 2A title as a sophomore, finished her career as a four-time state medalist and the only Patriot golfer to qualify for the state tournament four times. Miller finished sixth last season and eighth as a freshman, in addition to her two state titles. She is the only Stevenson golfer, girl or boy, to win the state championship.
