Nine Debaters Win Awards at SHS

Stevenson High School’s debate team finished second in the large school division in the Illinois Congressional Debate Association competition at SHS October 12-13. The team lost by three points to Highland Park.
Michelle Kelrikh earned the first place Quality Speaker award with an average score of 5.88 out of 6.0 for the competition. Other award winners included:
Critic’s Choice – Amy Orlov, Eric Ramoutar, Noella James and Peter Hwang.
First Place Speaker – Nikhita Luthra, Jimmy Chang, Valerie Gutman and Tina Moazezi.
Second Place Speaker – Michelle Kelrikh.
Best Presiding Officer – Noella James and Tina Moazezi.
Stevenson had a full roster of 45 students, plus other students who volunteered to keep the tournament running smoothly for all 415 contestants.
