Famous Paintings From the WebMuseum, Paris is an excellent collection of paintings by world-renowned artists. Includes an artist index, a themes index and a glossary.

American Photography: A Century of Images An excellent project site from PBS and Kodak that contains information on the use of photography and also contains an image database with an interactive workshop.

Art 21 An excellent resource on the artistic work of various artists, including such photographers as Sally Mann from PBS. Search the artist pages.

History of Kodak The Kodak website provides an in-depth history of the company and biographical information on George Eastman. A timeline of events, explanations of snapshot photography and film is also available.

History of Photography History of photography to 1920s by Dr. Robert Leggat.

How Cameras Work A site from How Stuff Works that explains the basic functions of a camera. It defines technical terms and uses clear graphics to explain lenses, focus, image size, homemade cameras, and how film works.

Masters of Photography A comprehensive resource that includes examples, biographies, links and articles by and about more than 50 different photographers.

Fashion Net Information on clothing styles, designers, etc.

The History of Costume Offers the complete text and illustrations from the German book of the same name, printed around 1880, and containing a collection of 500 period costume design plates that represent historical dress from antiquity to the end of the 19th century.

La Couturiere Parisienne A database of 4000 images of period costume from the Middle Ages through the early twentieth century.

Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Costume Institute A photographic display of part of the museum's vast costume collection features mostly twentieth century clothes.
