Local Scholarships
The Stevenson High School Foundation Scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence, leadership, and community service. These scholarships have been established by local individuals, families and businesses to benefit Stevenson students. The Foundation also hosts an awards ceremony in the spring to honor the recipients of these scholarships. THE REBECCA GAYLE BERGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A $500 scholarship, sponsored by the family of Rebecca Berger, will be awarded to two graduating seniors. Rebecca was a sophomore at Stevenson when she died suddenly of an asthma attack. She is remembered for her love of music, musical theater, and people - the cornerstone of her values. The recipients will be chosen by the Bergers, from the pool of applications submitted to the Fine Arts Department. Their intent is to recognize and honor two deserving seniors devoted to music, theatre and society who are planning to major in Music Education, Music Performance, Theatre, or Musical Theatre. NANCY NICHOLS SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded by the SHS Foundation in honor of its former executive director. Criteria for selection will be: C or better average; strong character; with service to SHS community and/or to the community at large, as evidenced by volunteer effort.
DU FOUR LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Richard P. DuFour demonstrated extraordinary leadership in his 19 years as principal and superintendent of Stevenson High School. This $2,000 scholarship, funded by the Stevenson Foundation, seeks to honor a graduating senior with extraordinary leadership skills.
The Foundation is pleased to sponsor and support the following scholarship opportunities:
KATHY WESTERBERG-VIRAVEC SCHOLARSHIP
A $2,000 scholarship, sponsored by the family of Kathy Westerberg-Viravec, a 1984 SHS graduate who died of cancer in 1995, will be awarded to a graduating senior. Kathy was an outstanding and dedicated student who loved to learn, help others learn, and had fun in the pursuit of her education. Criteria for selection will be: female student with minimum weighted GPA of 3.5, Illinois State Scholar, activities (especially Student Council and athletics), and service.
SODEXHO SCHOLARSHIP
The Sodexho Corporation will award a $1,500 scholarship to a senior who is considering a career in business or in the hospitality industry. Criteria for selection will be: academic achievement, activities, services, financial need, and essay.
ORCHESTRA PARENTS ASSOCIATION STRING ORCHESTRA SCHOLARSHIP
This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior orchestra member in order to further their personal music education in a 2- or 4-year accredited college. Majoring in music is not a requirement for this scholarship.
WILLIAM E. PETERSON PUBLIC SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
This $500 award will be given to the graduating senior who has been a strong student, demonstrated leadership and commitment to school and community service and is planning a career in public service.
DR. TIMOTHY KANOLD SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Kanold served the Stevenson High School Community both as a leader in our Mathematics Division and also as Superintendent. The Kanold Scholarship is a $1,000 award to a graduating senior who is currently enrolled in AP Calculus AB, with a mathematics grade point average of 3.25 or higher, who has a sense of service to the community and who is pursuing a math-related career.
OWP/P SCHOLARSHIP
OWP/P is a corporation providing integrated architecture, interior design, engineering, and consulting services. This firm, who has worked with Stevenson since 1986, is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in architecture, interior design, or other related careers in the architectural field.
THE UNSUNG PATRIOT SCHOLARSHIP
Successful human endeavor requires the commitment and dedication of team members-both leaders and followers. This scholarship, awarded by the Alumni Association, recognizes individuals who consistently and with persistence and dedication support the endeavors of their peers in the area of co-curricular activities and service.
