Greg Diethrich

Greg Diethrich became the first Executive Director of the Stevenson High School Community Foundation in April 2010. He replaced Nancy Nichols, who was interim director after serving one term as Foundation board president.

diethrichBefore coming to Stevenson, Greg was an Associate Dean and multi-campus Director with the Music Institute of Chicago, and previous to that Executive Director of Highland Park’s Music Arts School. 

Greg comes from a background in academia, and holds a Ph.D. and Master’s in Ethnomusicology (a combination of cultural anthropology and musicology).  A specialist in India and Indian diaspora communities, Greg has conducted extensive field research in India, Trinidad, and the U.S.  His research has been published in academic journals and edited collections and presented at numerous international conferences.  Greg has held faculty positions at the University of Illinois, Carleton College, DePaul University, and Lake Forest College.  An educator at heart, he is thrilled to be in the first-class environment of teaching and learning at Stevenson.

Greg is also a respected percussionist and remains an active performer and percussion teacher.  He is a specialist in jazz and world music, and enjoys performing many other genres as well.  Greg has more than 20 years experience as a private teacher and leader of workshops and ensembles in West African, Brazilian, Cuban, and Indian percussion.  In February 2010, Greg came to Stevenson as an Odyssey artist with the Orquestra de Samba, a resident ensemble at the Music Institute of Chicago, where he remains on the percussion faculty.
