Your Donations At Work

With the help of donations from parents, alumni, business partners, and other community supporters, the Stevenson High School Foundation has funded over $1.3 million in programs and projects at SHS. Foundation programs include the Kids In Need (KIN) Fund, Innovation Grants, Student Scholarships, Alumni Association, Community Outreach programs, and financial support of the Odyssey fine arts festival and many other school programs. These programs significantly enhance the school’s mission of Success for Every Student and serve our mission of Connecting Community & School.

2010-2011 Funding Highlights

Kids In Need (KIN) Fund: $12,354
The KIN Fund provides assistance for school-related expenses and provides a free breakfast program for SHS students in financial need.  KIN is unable to meet its demand each year for funding, but increased support from our community has enabled us to raise the KIN budget for the 2011-12 year.

Student Scholarships: $20,672
The Foundation funds and facilitates numerous student scholarships for graduating seniors for outstanding achievements in leadership, public service, performing arts, and much more.  The Foundation also hosts the annual Local Scholarships Reception, where in 2011 more than 50 students were presented with a total of 42 scholarships and awards.

Innovation Grants: $7,000
Increasing grant allocations is a current strategic priority for the Foundation.  We have more than doubled the budget for this year, distributing $7300 in grants in the Fall 2011 cycle alone.  More information about the grants program is available at www.d125.org/foundation/grants_program.aspx.

Grant highlights from 2010-11 include:
  • The Communication Arts department received a grant to develop a new sender school outreach program for teaching argument and rhetorical analysis. The program impacted 75 teachers and thousands of students in the district.
  • The Special Education department received a grant for the Life and Career Exploration Program to purchase equipment to enhance competency-based learning programs that improve problem-solving and employability skills critical for special needs students to be successful post-high school citizens.
  • The Lincolnshire Police Explorer Post received a grant to purchase police traffic vests for use by students in the program, who receive training each week in law enforcement and provide support to the police department at over a dozen community events each year.
Grant projects funded in Fall 2011 include:
  • SHS Spirit Fest, to support this student event that raises funds for charity. This year’s recipient was CASA of Lake Co.  More than $20,000 was raised and 1,300 people attended the event.
  • SHS Orchestra Department, to purchase a digital harpsichord for the developing Baroque Music Program, a very cutting- edge program for a high school.
  • SHS Library, to purchase 200 copies of a book to distribute to students to prepare for a program by visiting author Neal Shusterman. The books are intended to be read and passed on to other students; the library expects 2,500 SHS and sender junior high students will be impacted by the program.
  • SHS Basketball Community Coaches Clinic, geared towards sender school and community coaches to support and build ties with those programs.

Let's Get Excited

CE4PS-logo The Stevenson Foundation has been chosen to be among the first to participate in a national initiative called Create Excitement for Public Schools that will help raise funds for greatly needed programs at SHS. Through this initiative we are partnering with Amazon, Groupon and others to raise funds for our Kids In Need Fund and Innovation Grant Program. You can help by simply REGISTERING HERE, selecting "SHS Foundation," and making purchases through the emails you receive.

You will receive a daily email with links to Amazon.com, Groupon deal of the day, and more. The links will take you directly to their websites and a portion of anything you buy on Amazon, Groupon, etc. will come back to the SHS Foundation!

*Please Note: You must purchase through the links in our emails rather than by going directly to Amazon or Groupon emails you already receive (you’ll get the same daily deal through our link).  The Foundation receives proceeds only on purchases made through our daily emails.

Please spread the word to family, grandparents, friends and colleagues anywhere in the country and ask them to register! For Groupon, they will automatically receive deals for their area and Stevenson will still benefit. Tell your friends through Facebook and Twitter!

Participation is the key to the success of this initiative—please help us fund great programs for our school—while getting great deals yourself—and Register Now! Registration is also available on our website at www.d125.org/foundation.

SHS Online Auction Oct. 28-Nov. 7

bid_in_internet 2The second annual Stevenson Online Auction will be held from 9 a.m. Friday, October 28 through 9 p.m. Monday, November 7. The auction by the Stevenson High School Foundation is a collaborative partnership with the Band and Color Guard Parents Organization, Bravo! theatre boosters, Choral Guild, National Honor Society, Orchestra Parents Association, Patriot Parent Association, Special Education Community Board and Sports Boosters. Auction proceeds will benefit each of the groups' essential support of student needs and activities.

More than 140 auction items are available, including vacation experiences, sports and concert tickets, dining opportunities, valuable merchandise and services, Stevenson-related items, artwork and more. There will be a banner on the SHS home page at www.d125.org during the duration of the 10-day auction, and users can click on it to reach the auction location.

Foundation Fun for All Ages

under_the_streetlamp_castThe Stevenson Foundation invites the community to visit SHS for some weekend entertainment in the days and weeks ahead.

The annual Spotlight on Stevenson series returns November 12 with an appearance by Comedy Sportz, the longest running short-form improv comedy show in Chicago. On January 21, the original Chicago cast members of "Jersey Boys" will come to campus with their new show, "Under the Streetlamp." Click here for Spotlight on Stevenson tickets and details.

"Darius the Dragon," the first of two children's plays, will be performed on Sunday, October 23. Show times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and admission is only $5. This is an economic way to introduce young children to the magic of theater. Click here for information about the children's theater program.

How You Can Help

The Stevenson Foundation relies on donations from our community to fund the programs described in this report. Your generosity allows us to build upon the margin of excellence at Stevenson that has made us one of the best schools in the country and gives our students a huge advantage throughout their lives. The Stevenson Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.
  • Make a contribution to our annual appeal or anytime online at www.d125.org/foundation. You may specify the program you wish to donate to. Let us know if your company will provide a matching gift for your donation (contact us if you’re not sure).
  • Encourage your company to join our Investors in Education corporate partner program, which includes significant opportunities for recognition. Please contact us for details.
  • Participate in Foundation fundraisers such as Create Excitement for Public Schools and our annual Online Auction and Golf Outing.
  • Planned Giving: one of the most meaningful ways to support our mission and contribute to the future success of the school is by naming the Stevenson High School Foundation as a beneficiary in your will or estate plan. The steps are simple:
o    Decide what amount or percentage of your estate you wish to donate.  A percentage ensures that your gift remains proportionate to the value of your estate, regardless of changes over time.
o    Contact your estate planning attorney to update your estate plan.  Suggested bequest language to add to your will is: "I give to Stevenson High School Community Foundation, Lincolnshire, IL, (the sum of $__ or __ percent of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) for its general purposes."
o    We encourage you to notify us of your intention so we can thank and recognize you for your future gift and keep you informed about our activities.

Your gifts will help ensure the highest level of academic and co-curricular opportunities for our students for generations to come!
