Debate Team Honored by NFL

The Stevenson High School debate team has earned membership in the
National Forensic League’s prestigious 200 Club because it achieved 200 degrees or more last year, placing it in the top 5% of NFL chapters nationwide.
A returning member of the team, Eric Ramoutar, has earned an automatic spot in the
2013 NFL National Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, based on his performance at this year’s Nationals in Indianapolis in June. He and teammate Abhi Sanka (now a freshman at Duke University) were part of a weeklong competition featuring the top 444 students in Congressional Debate from across the nation. Sanka placed 10
th in the Senate, while Ramoutar was 11
th in the House of Representatives, respectively.
The coaches last year were Erik Joerns, Bill Fritz and Doug Koski. Dan Demarco has filled the position vacated by Koski.
