Alumni Assoc. Launches LinkedIn Group
SHS is pleased to announce the launch of an official Stevenson alumni LinkedIn group: Stevenson High School Alumni Association. All alumni are encouraged to request to join the group! The LinkedIn group is intended only to facilitate professional networking among Stevenson alums. For non-professional purposes (news, reunions, etc.), alumni are welcome to post to our Facebook page (also Stevenson High School Alumni Association). The LinkedIn group is one of a number of professional initiatives the Alumni Association will launch in the coming year. These include the networking reception described below, as well as a series of job search skill workshops that will be announced soon on the LinkedIn group. We’d love your ideas for additional career-oriented programs or events; just email firstname.lastname@example.org.

SHS Alumni Gather for NYC Reception
From the song New York, New York
, the line "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere" suggests that our Alumni Association can look forward to a bright future. Over 30 Stevenson alums came together at the Miracle Garden in New York City’s East Village on April 20 for an evening of socializing and networking. Alumni ranging from graduating classes in the mid-80s to the late-2000s living in the New York area connected and reconnected at the event, sharing lively conversation and business cards. It was the first such alumni event to be held outside the Chicago area. From Stevenson, Board of Education member Merv Roberts and Foundation Director Greg Diethrich attended the gathering and spoke about recent school achievements and the plans of the new Alumni Association. Great thanks go out to Andrew Klaber (Class of 2000) for co-hosting the event at the beautiful garden venue. We hope it's the first of many to come!
Steven Feinartz (Class of 2002) is the director of The Bitter Buddha, a documentary about comedian Eddie Pepitone that also will feature appearances by Zach Galifiankis, Sarah Silverman and Patton Oswalt. The film is scheduled to make its debut at the Siskel Center in Chicago on June 15.
Jessica Murphy (Class of 1998), who led her the SHS cheerleading program to sixth-place finishes in the state in 2009 and 2010, is returning as head coach. She has been serving as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.
Sunjay Gorawara (Class of 2008) was one of two students selected to speak at Indiana University’s 183rd annual commencement on May 5. Gorawara graduated with majors in finance and entrepreneurship from the Kelley School of Business and a minor in public and environmental affairs from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Anastasia "Stacey" Way (Class of 2009) completed an internship with the United Nations Food Program in Rome this spring. She is a junior at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, majoring in English Writing and Communications and also is a Media Fellow at the school.
Two former SHS gymnasts, Mike Wilner (Class of 2011) and Lukasz Adamczyk (Class of 2010), made news at the NCAA Championships in April. Wilner finished 15th in still rings to help the University of Illinois win its 10th NCAA team championship. Adamczyk, competing for Illinois-Chicago, won the Elite 89 award given to the gymnast participating at the NCAA Championships with the highest cumulative grade-point average. He has a 4.0 GPA with a double major in Spanish and bioengineering.
Maya Kaminsky (Class of 2001) has started her own clothing line, W8Fit, featuring weighted active wear for women. The clothing will be made in Chicago, thanks to a $5,000 infusion from supporters via Kickstarter.
Brandon Stryganek (Class of 2011) and his teammates on the University of Illinois’ 400-meter relay team won the Big Ten championship in May and qualified for the NCAA finals.
Rev. Robert Krueger (Class of 2002) was one of 14 new priests ordained in the Archdiocese of Chicago in May. He celebrated his first Mass at his home parish of St. Mary in Buffalo Grove.
Duncan Partridge (Class of 2008) earned All-America honors for the second straight year after helping the University of Iowa to a 15th place finish in the 200 freestyle relay at the NCAA men’s swimming championships.
Scott Firth (Class of 2009) and Jon Savarise (Class of 2012) were selected in the 32nd and 33rd rounds, respectively, of the Major League Baseball draft in June. Firth was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies and Savarise was picked by the Chicago White Sox.
