School Closing Information

The decision as to whether or not school should open on a day of inclement weather is always difficult. It is Stevenson's practice to remain open unless the bus company advises us it cannot run due to bad weather. We may elect to delay the opening of school to allow snow plows to clear roads, and to avoid rush-hour traffic.

When classes are canceled or delayed, we will notify parents in the following ways:
  • An automated phone call will be made to the home phone number of the student that was provided by the parents for our student records management system. Also, any other contact devices for which parents provided information will be contacted.
  • A notice will be posted on our website that will appear in a bright, red banner.
Also, school closing information for the Chicago area is available online at the Emergency Closing Center. School closings also are announced on radio through WBBM-AM (780) and WGN-AM (720), and through the six television news stations serving the Chicago area: WBBM (CBS, Channel 2), WMAQ (NBC, Channel 5), WLS (ABC, Channel 7), WGN (Tribune Company, Channel 9), WFLD (Fox, Channel 32) and CLTV (Tribune Company, local cable).
